Best CapCut export settings for TikTok

Most "blurry TikTok" problems start before the upload — in the export screen. Here are the settings that give TikTok the best possible file to work with, and how to fix the one CapCut habit that breaks optimizers and causes lag.

The short version

  • hdResolution: 1080p. TikTok's player tops out at 1080p for almost all viewers — 4K just gets downscaled by their servers instead of yours.
  • speedFramerate: 60 FPS. Smooth motion survives compression far better than 24/30 FPS, and TikTok serves 60 FPS streams to most modern devices.
  • tuneQuality/bitrate: the highest option available. "Recommended" is tuned for small files, not quality. More bitrate in means more quality left after TikTok compresses.
  • codeCodec: H.264 if offered. It's the most compatible path through TikTok's pipeline.

Step by step in CapCut

  1. Finish your edit, then tap the Export arrow (top right).
  2. Open the resolution selector and choose 1080p.
  3. Set the framerate to 60 FPS.
  4. If your version shows a bitrate or quality option, set it to the highest setting.
  5. Export, and don't send the file through messaging apps afterwards — WhatsApp, Discord (below Nitro limits), and iMessage all re-compress video. Move it with a cable, cloud drive, or AirDrop.

The hidden problem: variable framerate

Mobile editors like CapCut often export variable framerate (VFR) video — the timing between frames isn't constant. Players and processing tools expect constant framerate (CFR), so VFR files can stutter, lag, or fail in tools that patch or re-container video.

If your export lags or won't process: re-import it into CapCut or VN, make no edits, and export again at exactly 60 FPS — or on desktop, run it through HandBrake with the "Creator Web Optimized" preset and Constant Framerate selected. Why quality still drops after upload
