Guide
Best TikTok video size & export settings
These are the export settings that give TikTok the best possible file to work with — the dimensions, frame rate, and bitrate that hold up through its pipeline. They apply to any editor: Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, After Effects, or CapCut.
The settings at a glance
- crop_portraitResolution: 1080 × 1920 (1080p vertical).
- aspect_ratioAspect ratio: 9:16 full screen.
- speedFrame rate: 60 FPS, constant (not variable).
- codeCodec: H.264 (AVC), high profile.
- tuneBitrate: highest available — aim for 15–25 Mbps.
- folderFile: MP4, comfortably under TikTok's limit.
Resolution & aspect ratio
Export at 1080 × 1920 in a 9:16 frame. TikTok's player tops out at 1080p for almost every viewer, so 4K just gets downscaled on their servers — extra upload time for no visible gain. Anything narrower than 9:16 gets letterboxed and looks smaller in the feed.
Frame rate
Use 60 FPS with a constant frame rate. Smooth motion survives compression far better than 24 or 30 FPS. Avoid variable frame rate (VFR) — common from mobile editors — because it causes stutter and can break processing tools. If your editor offers "constant frame rate," turn it on.
Bitrate & codec
Choose H.264 (AVC) and the highest bitrate your editor allows — around 15–25 Mbps for 1080p60. "Recommended" presets are tuned for small files, not quality. More bitrate going in means more detail left after TikTok re-encodes.
The part settings can't fix
Even a perfect export gets re-encoded by TikTok's servers, usually to a fraction of your original bitrate — that's why TikTok compresses your video. Good settings reduce the damage; they can't prevent it. The Haze optimizer reworks your file so TikTok's pipeline skips its heaviest compression pass, without re-encoding a single frame. Frequently asked questions
What is the best resolution and aspect ratio for TikTok?
1080 × 1920 at a 9:16 aspect ratio. TikTok's player tops out around 1080p, and anything narrower than 9:16 gets letterboxed and looks smaller in the feed.
What bitrate should I export for TikTok?
The highest your editor allows — roughly 15–25 Mbps for 1080p60 with H.264 (AVC), high profile. More bitrate going in means more detail left after TikTok re-encodes.
What frame rate is best for TikTok?
60 FPS with a constant frame rate. Variable frame rate from mobile editors causes stutter and can break processing tools, so enable constant frame rate if your editor offers it.
